The inaugural WASHEd Fellowship Cohort has been announced, planting the seeds for continued outreach to schools in the Philippines.
Sponsored by the Duke University and UNICEF USA, the inaugural WASHEd Fellowship Cohort has been announced for 2023, kickstarting a year-long process to upskill water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) educators.
An expansion of their pilot phase, WASHEd has already reached more than 7,500 young learners around the Philippines. This year's plans incorporates a diverse cohort of changemakers, with the aim to use this diversity to channel robust outcomes.
After a highly-competitive selection process, 11 young leaders have been selected to participate in the inaugural program. Fellows will undergo virtual onboarding in early March, before taking part in a two-day Capacity-Building Training event held at the Asian Institute of Management, Manila. The event is sponsored by El Puerto Marina, who are committed to supporting the professional development of these fellows to help scale WASH education across the Philippines.
"We [at El Puerto Marina] believe in investing in the sustainable growth of communities where education, health, and social inclusion are prioritised. We are honoured to sponsor the inaugural WASHEd Fellowship program and make a difference in schools", shares Flordeliza Verzosa, Managing Director of El Puerto Marina Beach Resort & Vacation Club.
Taking forward their learnings, Fellows will each facilitate a full WASHEd training program to expand WASHEd's reach across elementary schools, channelling the material they have learned for the greater good of the community.
"We are hoping to engage in strengthened partnerships and the expansion of the program for additional schools for the holistic development of the learners"
